Another simple Kristen Bell wallpaper. I couldn't resist - I just love that shoot. Plus, I wanted to attempt the character cutout with a patterned background. I never can seem to do them too well, but I think it looks okay here. I still have problems around the hair, though.

No new icons lately; too busy. I haven't even participated in the last few lost_challenge, er, challenges.
I did, however, make it through the first four rounds of the HOL LIMS - I'll try to remember to post those icons soon.

I whipped up a quick wallpaper using some Kristen Bell pictures the other day and figured I would share.

I started with the second wallpaper, but forgot to put the busier stuff on the right side of the screen to allow for desktop icons. When I switched sides, I couldn't get the faded background image to work right, so I just dropped it. Figured I'd go ahead and share both versions, since I had 'em.

grrliz recently did some text-only wallpapers using movie quotes, which turned out amazing. Someone mentioned a huge line from Cruel Intentions, and I whipped up a quick wallpaper with a portion of that quote, just to play. Nothing great but, again, figured I'd share.

(Style idea taken from grrliz's Shaun of the Dead wallpaper, though the blue and black use was unintentional.)

So, I was playing around with random tutorials tonight... and I made a goofy Harry Potter/iPod picture.

It's horribly cheesy, yet I find myself wanting to use it as a CD cover. I just need the mix to go along with it. heh

Also, I had trouble deciding if my grammar was correct. I was thinking 'Lucky' would be plural, so 'Survive' would be correct. Any English nuts want to confirm or deny this for me?

#10 is so very awesome. "Very nice. I love the bright blue of the ocean. I like how to the left it is lighter, and it goes darker to the right with a lovely contrast. I love that it's zoomed out away from Hurley, and again, you can see the journey ahead of him represented by the sand in front. I like how you can see his footprints, so you feel he's gone a long distance. The dark text sets it off completely and nicely!"

Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical

I've been dying to make some text/quote icons lately. With my recent obsession for the latest Reefer Madness movie - yay for musicals! - I'm surprised it took me so long to consider it for texty icons. Silly girl, yes?

I was playing around with variety, which is why just about all of the fonts or text placement is different. And I tend to approach each icon as its own thing, anyhow. I have theme issues. Which, is why I'm proud that these at least carry a color theme! And basic background theme, as I used textures in a set from grrliz_icons as bases. I even loved the colors so much, I left most of them as is. (I actually played more with colors, but couldn't seem to get anything to work to my liking.) A few of the bases, however, were taken from inxsomniax's texture pack.

Some of them didn't turn out quite as well as I had imagined. I would truly love some feedback - concrit, tips, suggestions.

#13, come on down! "Lovely! The crop is quite far out from the characters, so we can only just identify them. This allows use to see that they are walking away from each other. The text in between the characters fits the scene perfectly - "Drift Away." The coloring is also great, the sea looks great!"

#14 is a weiner! I mean, winner! "The first thing that caught my eye about this icon was the details, the feathery white at the bottom of the picture, and the text with the blue line. I just love how it brings the icon all together. Lovely!"

Thanks to the wonderful ctofine for the icon nom... my Cordy!icon won over at fandom_awards!

With a 47% win, it placed first for the category of "Love, Daisies and Troubadours" - which is longhand for 'Happy Icons'.

Cordy does look quite happy, doesn't she?

Lost 1x11 - All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues

Our computer died a couple week's ago. The motherboard fried and we don't have the extra money to replace it. Thankfully a friend has given us a computer to use for now... but it's only a 10gb hard drive, which is full. No Photoshopping on this thing for me. It gets me online so at least it feeds that addiction.

But my PS addiction....

I pulled out our really old computer. It doesn't even have an ethernet card to hook up to the internet, but it did have a slightly bigger hard drive, so I promptly installed Photoshop onto it. Despite it having the ever crappy Windows ME that likes to fault every little move. Not to mention the horrible video card and monitor that's near dead itself. It was a fix, that's all that matters.

Even if it means transferring images between that computer and this one, by means of a 3.5" floppy disc. I'm so old school. :P

And here, we have a batch for the latest lost_challenge, season 1 episode 11's All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues - all done on the crappy computer.

And, our internet went out this past weekend, so I haven't seen these on a decent monitor until now. I think they're too dark... but I guess not awful, considering what I had to work with. :D

Movie - Hard Candy

About a month ago, I told myself I would icon some movies. Change things up a bit. I tend to plan things for myself that don't exactly... happen. So, color me shocked when it's right at a month later and I actually have some movie icons to post.

When checking out the trailers at Apple.com I happened across one for a movie called Hard Candy, which has apparently done well in film festivals. This trailer really appealed to me. Not only does it seem to have an interesting story - nice and twisted and a little uncomfortable - but the colors are just beautiful. Muted, but with the right lighting to offer vibrancy. The colors just screamed icon.

But, let's face it, what doesn't these days?

So here we have 16 17 icons from Hard Candy (starring Ellen Page who plays Kitty Pryde in the upcoming X-Men 3). Some of them are retardedly simple and a few are interesting, at least to me. Let me know what you think!

The Oldbie

I just had to try and animate that scene, in #16. I originally had the entire scene in there, but it was far too big for LJ standards. Over 100k. As it stands now, it's a lot shorter and still horribly choppy. But it gets the point across. I'd really like to learn how people make those mini-movie icons... they're so smooth and often longer than the one I made here. How do they do it, while staying under 40k?

815 Mile

So... Charlie looked very 8 Mile in last week's episode of Lost. Many people brought it up.

But Chris, in his infinite wisdom and sheer brilliance inspired this icon:

I couldn't quite get it to do what I wanted... not really a lot of space to work with and still have everything show up clear. In the first one, the bottom image is Charlie writing on the tape on his fingers (close up of the hands). Odd angle and, again, small canvas. But it's late, and that's good enough. ;) I threw the second one in there, cause, well, I guess I wanted to make this less spammy? *shrugs*

And, while I'm here, I might as well throw this piece o' crap up --

I made it to use as an example while bitching about that annoying red/pink square thing that everyone's using. But I like the image itself. Aawww Giles and Spike with their cuppa tea (or blood).

Besides, the whole purpose of this place is to share the stuff I make - even the spoofs, I suppose.
